Kanu Chairman Gedion Moi will tomorrow represent President Uhuru Kenyatta during the inauguration of Malawi’s president Lazarus Chakwera in the capital city Lilongwe.
Although Mr.Chakwera has already taken the oath of office, this will be the official public inauguration and celebration of Malawi’s national Day.
The information which has been confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will further drive a wedge between Mr. Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
“Mr. Moi is leading the government delegation that also has Chief Administrative Secretary Ababu Namwamba,” Foreign Affairs PS Macharia Kamau said last evening.
On the choice of Senator Moi he said; “He is a senior senator and will sufficiently represent the Head of State.”
Ordinarily,Dr. Ruto would have been the one leading government delegation and not the scion of the second president Daniel Moi.Mr. Moi is locked in a duel with the DP for the control of Rift Valley politics.
Both DP Ruto and Mr. Moi have their eyes trained on the presidency in 2022,with indications that the president will likely cast his lot with the son of his mentor, the late Moi.
The Sunday Nation is aware that the copy of Mr. Kenyatta’s speech the senator will read on his behalf was emailed by the state House last Evening.
“The Boss is in Lilingwe on the request of the president. You may want to contact State House for more information on this,” Senator Moi’s spokesman Alex Kiprotich said yesterday.
Senator Moi will be accompanied by KANU Secretary General Nick Salat.Kanu recently signed a post election agreement with Mr Kenyatta’s Jubilee party, irking Dp Ruto and his Allies.
