Jeff Koinange recovers from Covid-19
Citizen TV journalist Jeff Koinange on Thursday revealed that he had recovered from Covid-19 after a second negative test. Through his Twitter page, Koinange said he was in his 17th day of isolation and thanked Kenyans for their support and prayers.
“Folks…Day 17 in isolation and I just got my 2nd test results…NEGATIVE…I have BEATEN this MONSTER! And YOU can too! Thank you for ALL your Prayers, Kind Words and Good Wishes! TOGETHER can win this WAR against #COVID19 God Bless! Twende Kazi,” he tweeted.
Just 24 hours earlier, Jeff stated that he had received his first negative test and was looking forward to a second to confirm his recovery. He has been asymptomatic and has constantly encouraged Kenyans that they can recover from the virus.
In July, he revealed that he had tested positive and was in self-isolation although he was asymptomatic. Asked where he contracted the virus, the former CNN journalist said he probably contracted it while in the radio station. “It probably happened in the radio station because someone at Citizen tested positive and he named several people he had been in contact with. I was among them.”
“My boss called me and told me that my name came up and I had to be tested…I said for what, why? And that was it,” he recalled. Koinange, however, said the virus is not a death sentence since a lot more people survive than die. He stated that he went public to demystify the entire situation and put a face to it. Jeff said that ever since he went public about his status he has been receiving so many messages of encouragement from friends and colleagues who wish him a quick recovery.
In recent weeks, the Ministry of Health has called on Kenyans not to subject Covid-19 patients to stigma since anyone can contract the virus.
These sentiments were shared by Dr Frank Njenga who said some people still doubt whether there is Covid-19 since they do not know anyone who has contracted it.
