Former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana was arrested for being party to a fraud scheme that saw a woman lose Ksh. 1 million over an none-existent tender.
According to the Standard, Mungatana and his co-accused lied to an unnamed woman that they would help her get a 70-million tender at the Department of Defence.
She was supposed to get a tender that would see her do construction works and also supply cereals.
Mungatana’s co-accused is said to have requested for a facilitation payment of Ksh. 1 million which was handed to him by the woman before she got tender papers.
Things went south when the woman arrived at DOD with tender papers. It is then that she realized the papers she had were fake and in fact she had been conned Khs. 1 million.
The matter was immediately reported and investigations commenced.
New Nairobi Police boss, Rashid Yakub confirmed the incident.
“The said person requested he be given a down payment of Sh1 million which was handed to him in July 14, 2020,” Yakub Told the Standard in an interview.
He says the women accompanied by her friends took the money to the two at a Nairobi Hotel. He introduced himself as a person who pushes deals at DOD.
“Together with two other ladies, she went to the hotel and found a man identified as Collins Waweru together with Danson Mungatana who was introduced as the senior person pushing for the tenders at DOD,” the police Boss added.
