Lionel Messi will miss Barcelona’s final game of the 2020/21 season

The Catalan club were knocked out of the LaLiga title race last week as they were beaten 2-1 by Celta Vigo.

While Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will battle it out on the final day, Barca face bottom side Eibar in a dead rubber.

It is the first time for 13 years the Nou Camp outfit has finished outside the top two in what has been a hugely disappointing season – despite winning the Copa del Rey.

Now the club’s star player Lionel Messi, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been given permission to miss the Eibar clash – with the maestro granted an extended period of rest ahead of this summer’s Copa America.

Speculation continues to surround Messi’s future with his contract up this summer.

The Sun reported last week that Man City’s interest in Messi is still very real, in a deal that would see the Argentine reunited with his former Barca manager Pep Guardiola, but they would have to pay him £500,000-a-week after tax.

Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running, where he could link up with ex-teammate Neymar.
