Fire officer dies while trying to rescue people trapped in a well

A fire officer from the Central Region’s Agona Swedru Fire Service was killed while attempting to save three people who were drowning in a well in Gomoa Obuasi.

Assistant Station Officer Joseph Aidoo has been identified as the officer.

According to witnesses, three workers on the well inadvertently fell inside, prompting community members to call the fire department for assistance on Friday.

In an attempt to save the lives of the three people trapped in the water, one of the fire officers drowned and died.

The three people were eventually extracted from the well and are being treated at the Agona Swedru Hospital.

Meanwhile, the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary of Agona Swedru Hospital for preservation.

The case has also been reported to the Agona Swedru Police Station, where it will be investigated.
