Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has said Mt Kenya region is waiting for President Uhuru Kenyatta’s pronouncements on who he will support for the 2022 presidential election.

Speaking on K24 Television on Monday evening, the governor said Uhuru’s choice of candidate will be a game changer in the region.

“A day in politics is too long and anything can change even before Mashujaa Day. We are waiting for the president to speak on who he will be endorsing and that will be a game changer,” she said.

She, however, said she did not expect the President to choose a preferred candidate directly.

“I personally think that the President will not be outright on who he would prefer to be his successor,” she stated.

The governor also weighed in on the state on Jubilee Party saying it no longer has prospects to retain seats in the region.

“If you listen to the ground and especially to the younger people, they tend to relate with UDA. I said I will listen to what the people will say and you know even a day is too long in politics,” she added.

Waiguru sentiments come after President’s visit to the county where he addressed residents ahead of Mashujaa Day to be held on Wednesday.

In his stop over at Sagana, the President fell short of endorsing Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga for 2022 presidential election.

“I sent a visitor (Raila) here. I hope you received him well,” Uhuru said in his native Gikuyu language.

The President also hit out at his deputy William Ruto whom he accused of misleading people from Mt Kenya region.

“Some come here to mislead you. When do they have time to work? If they bring you money, take it but in 2022, make the right choice,” he said.
