Nominated MP David Sankok has claimed that any working in the Middle East was either picked in Koinange Streets or Sabina Joy.

Sankok claimed while visiting Saudi Arabia, a country whose citizens have been accused of torturing Kenyan labourers working there.

During the visit, the legislator said he met officials for the country’s Ministry of Labour with whom he discussed the plight of Kenyan women working in the country.

Sankok also said that he had a meeting with recruitment agencies that seek jobs for Kenyan women in Saudi Arabia.

Following his visits, Sankok said that he came up with some conclusions that might lead to some Kenyan women working in Saudi Arabia are being tortured.

One of the conclusions is that though Kenya produces some of the most skilled labourers in the world, most of the women who go to the Middle East are former sex workers.

He claimed that the Kenyan recruitment agencies that export these women do not train them properly.

“Kenyan recruitment agents pick girls in Koinange Street, bars, and brothels and export them as immigrant workers without pre-departure training on laws, traditions, and cultures of foreign countries,” he observed.

The lawmaker further noted that even in Kenya many households don’t pick their house helps from the street.

On this note, Sankok said that once he jets back into the country, he will initiate amendments to the labour migration laws that will see women being exported out of the country have good morals and the right education.

“We will lobby executive to fast-track the signing of bilateral agreements that will protect all Kenyan workers in the Middle East,” adding that, “We will also not allow families to send drug addicts for rehabilitation to the Asian countries.”
