Expect an increase in taxes as from next year after SRC proposed for increase in salaries of MPs

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission on Tuesday, December 14, published proposed salaries for state officers set to be implemented from the financial year of 2021/2022 and 2022/2023.
In the new proposed changes, the salaries of Members of Parliament and Senators will rise from Ksh 621,250 gazetted in July 2017 to Ksh710,000.
“The proposed monthly consolidated remuneration package is a consolidated pay includes house allowance in line with section 31(2)(a) of the employment, Act,2007,” SRC stated.
“Chairpersons shall be paid Ksh15,000 per sitting subject to a maximum of Ksh240,000 per month and members shall be paid Ksh7,500 per sitting subject to a maximum of Ksh120,000 per month,” SRC proposed.
Additionally, dental and optical medical allowance for the MPs has been raised from Ksh75,000 to Ksh100,000.
However, the salary of the President remains at Ksh 1,443,750 while that of his deputy is retained at Ksh1,227,188. Similarly, cabinet secretaries and governors will continue to earn Ksh 924,000.
“Pursuant to Articles 10,201 and 230 (5) of the constitution of Kenya, the commission is inviting memoranda and views from stakeholders and the public on the proposed remuneration and benefits structure for state officers.
The written views and memoranda should be addressed to the commission secretary/CEO and sent through the SRC email address,” read the notice.
