The race to secure the Langata parliamentary seat has taken yet another turn after ODM Party leader Raila Odinga’s nephew Jaoko Oburu Odinga on Monday January 17, announced his entrance into Nairobi politics.
While mobilising Kenyans to register in IEBC’s ongoing voter registration exercise, Jaoko, son to Odinga’s elder brother Oburu Odinga, shared a poster indicating that he was in the Langata constituency race.
Jaoko, an Executive Committee Member in Siaya County and the Chairman of YOTHA (Youth for The Handshake Alliance), joins popular media personality Jalang’o in the race to clinch the ODM nomination as the party prepares to challenge sitting Jubilee MP Nixon Korir out of the seat.
Korir has announced that he shall be defending his seat on Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA Party.
Jalang’o has already set camp in the constituency and has met several residents and groups who have promised to cast their votes in his favor.
Langata Constituency was carved out of the greater Kibera Constituency in 1963 and named Nairobi South Constituency. In 1969 it was renamed Langata and is today home to expatriates and the affluent in Kenyan society.
Karen estate where almost all of the government bigwigs are housed falls under Langata Constituency.
The media personality maintained that he is only aware of the Azimio la Umoja coalition being led by the ODM leader Raila Odinga. He was responding to claims that he has joined Ruto’s UDA party.
