President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has kicked out six rebels Members of Parliament in the latest purge on errant members.
In the latest changes in the National Assembly and through an announcement by Speaker Justin Muturi on Wednesday, February 2, the six have been discharged from their respective House committees.
The six include Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru who has been discharged from the Departmental Committee on Livestock, William Kipkemoi, who has been discharged from Departmental Committee on Information and Katoo ole Metito discharged from Departmental Committee on Defence.
Others are Japheth Kareke Mbiuki, discharged from Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources, David Gikaria, discharged from Departmental Committee on Energy, and Ali Wario, who has been discharged from the Select Committee on Regional Integration.
“I wish to report to the house that my office is in receipt of a letter dated 1st of February 2022 from a Majority Party Whip, notifying that the Jubilee Party has discharged the following members from the specified committees,” Muturi stated before revealing the names of those discharged.
Jubilee Party has been taking action against lawmakers perceived as rebels and those opposed to the party’s ideologies.
The latest changes come after the passage of the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021 which saw some MPs, mostly those affiliated to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), oppose the changes.
