It’s irony Uhuru holds peace talks, Raila plans riots – Miguna

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has sustained criticism against ODM leader Raila Odinga, the latest being over his resolve to hold nationwide demos.

Miguna said it is ironic that whereas Raila’s handshake partner Uhuru Kenyatta is busy holding talks for the restoration of peace in troubled eastern DRC, Raila is organising mass protests.

“The irony of all times,” he said In a tweet after Uhuru attended the third inter-Congolese dialogue in Nairobi in his capacity as facilitator of the EAC- led process.

On Sunday, Raila announced that he will lead mass protests across the country beginning Wednesday to denounce the ongoing process to remove the four IEBC commissioners from office.

He said the protests will start in Nairobi at Kamukunji Grounds before heading to Mombasa, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nakuru and other major towns.

The Justice and Legal Affairs Committee Thursday last week started hearing four petitions for the removal of the four, vice chair Juliana Cherera and commissioners Justus Nyang’aya, Francis Wanderi and Irene Masit.

Petitioners want them removed from office over abuse of office, gross misconduct and contravention of the Constitution.

They sharply and openly differed with chairman Wafula Chebukati over the legality of the presidential results he used to declare William Ruto president.

Raila has termed their removal process as vindictive and vile saying Ruto wants them removed to install friendly commissioners in readiness for the 2027 polls.

“There is due process and natural justice, things aren’t just done at the whims of the executive,” Raila said Friday last week.

He said if the removal process proceeds, it will mark the beginning of a massive pushback against Ruto.

“We will openly and robustly lead that pushback,” he said.

While speaking at the peace dialogue, Ruto asked Raila to check the government using means that would not disturb public peace.
