DCI looking for a guy who criticised the Gov’t for using expired teargas in a viral video

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced searching for a couple of individuals captured on camera, causing mayhem during the anti-state demonstrations on Monday, March 20.
The investigators have appealed to the public to help in identifying the faces; those captured have also been asked to surrender themselves for questioning.
Among them is a man who went viral while lecturing the government for using ‘expired’ teargas on demonstrators.
While demonstrating using a thrown canister, the man claimed that the monies set aside for the procurement of new teargas had presumably been dissipated by state officials.
“The government has stolen teargas money now they are using the one for 2020. We want the ones manufactured in 2023,” he is heard in the clip.
According to the DCI, the said persons destroyed public property, attacked innocent members of the public and hurled projectiles at police officers who were on duty protecting life and property.
As a result, property of unknown value was destroyed, while a total of 33 officers suffered injuries of various degrees and some are still recuperating at various hospitals in the city.
The investigative agency stated that a firearm loaded with 15 rounds was also lost by one of the officers taking on the demonstrators in Embakasi.
It warned Kenyans against capitalising on the right to picket to cause disorder in the public.
“In this regard, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations cautions members of the public that while the right to assemble, picket and petition is enshrined in our constitution, these rights should be exercised with civility and should not infringe on the rights of others,” said the DCI.
Should the individuals be arrested, they will face charges ranging from robbery with violence, malicious damage to public property and assault among other allied offences, the DCI said.
